Methods for Determining the Gender of Dwarf Hamsters
Examining the Abdominal Nipples and Testicles: Female dwarf hamsters have six pairs of nipples on their abdomens, while male dwarf hamsters have testicles. The testicles of adult male dwarf hamsters are clearly visible.
Observing the Distance between the Anus and Genitals: In female dwarf hamsters, the distance between the anus and the genitals is relatively short, almost connected together. However, in male dwarf hamsters, the distance between the anus and the genitals is longer, and two holes can be clearly seen.
Examining the Scent Glands: Male dwarf hamsters have scent glands in the center of their bellies (at the position of the navel), which is a distinct characteristic.
Precautions for Determining Gender
Age Factor: The gender characteristics of young hamsters are not obvious, especially those of dwarf hamsters. Their sexual organs are not fully developed, making it difficult to accurately determine their gender. As they grow older, the characteristics will gradually become more evident.
Multiple Examinations: If you are unsure about the gender of a hamster, you can re-examine it after a while. Sometimes, you might overlook another small hole.
Consulting Professionals: If you still can't determine the gender, you can consult an experienced veterinarian.
