Here are several ways to tell the difference between male and female amber hamsters:
Size: Male hamsters are usually a bit larger in size than female hamsters.
Scent Glands: The scent glands of male hamsters are more noticeable than those of female hamsters. The scent glands are located in the middle of the abdomen or on both sides behind the waist. The secretions are milky white and viscous liquids, which turn yellow after solidifying.
Mammary Glands: The mammary glands of female hamsters are more prominent than those of male hamsters. There are double-row-button-like nipples on the abdomen.
Position of Genitals: The genitals of female hamsters are closer to the anus, while those of male hamsters are farther away from the anus.
Shape of the Butt: The butt of female hamsters is rather pointed and triangular in shape, while the butt of male hamsters is plumper.
