how to pet hamster properly

Hamsters are rather timid and sensitive by nature, so generally they don't like to be petted. If the pet owner really wants to pet it, the following points should be noted.

  1. Don't approach it suddenly.

Since hamsters are very timid, if you suddenly take it out and stroke it crazily when it is completely unprepared, it will be frightened and may bite, go into stress, or play dead. Therefore, before petting a hamster, it is recommended to feed it first, try to touch it with your finger, and then pick it up gently from the front and pet it softly.

  2. Don't use too much force.

The small body of a hamster is relatively soft and fragile, so when stroking, be careful not to use too much force. Try to be as gentle as possible and stroke along the direction of the hair growth. If you mess up its hair, it can get angry easily.

  3. Wash your hands before petting.

Hamsters are sensitive to smells. Usually, they mainly distinguish their owners by smell and sound. If the pet owner has just eaten something or touched other smelly things and then touches the hamster, the hamster will be extremely scared and may bite.

There have been pet owners who said that they just ate duck necks and didn't wash their hands before touching the hamster, and then the hamster suddenly got extremely excited and bit the owner hard.

  4. Build a good relationship before petting.

Before the hamster is familiar enough with its owner, no matter where the owner touches it, the hamster will feel very nervous and scared. So when the hamster just arrives home, don't touch it immediately. Instead, let it adapt to the environment first. After it is familiar with your voice and smell, then try to touch it.

Tip: When interacting with the hamster, the pet owner must have enough patience. If the hamster really doesn't like to be petted, the owner should not force it, because observing the little hamster's life every day is actually a kind of fun.
