when to clean hamster cage

1. Change the water and food once a day. Observe whether there is anything blocking the water outlet of the water bottle and clean it in time. Since the bowl and water dispenser are things that hamsters use every day, it is necessary to ensure the cleanliness of these two utensils.

2. Clean the garbage at the bottom of the cage every 2 to 3 days. Do not replace and clean the entire tray every day, especially for hamsters that have just been brought home. Due to frequent changes in the environment, they may become irritable. Hamsters usually urinate in a relatively fixed place, usually in a corner of the cage. Therefore, when changing the water every day, clean up the wet garbage in that corner and replace it with clean garbage.

3. Clean the small nest. When they are away, observe whether there are piles of food in the nest and observe whether it is just stored or left for a day or two. If there is an unpleasant smell, clean it up in time. At the same time, replace the bedding in the nest (a little bit) with new ones. Wash the entire nest with water once every 4 to 7 days.

4. After doing local cleaning every day, generally clean and wash the cage once every 5 to 7 days. It should be noted that the cleaning of the cage should also be arranged according to a cycle. If the cleaning is too frequent, it may cause anxiety in the mice. If the cleaning interval is too long, there may also be bacterial residues, bringing skin diseases to hamsters.
