Cage Selection
Hamster cages generally don't need to be extremely large or tall. For a pair of hamsters, a cage with basic dimensions of about 35 cm in length, 25 cm in width and 30 cm in height will be okay. The main equipment in the cage should include a water bottle, a food dish, a running wheel and a sleeping house. Additionally, it's advisable to prepare an extra smaller backup cage. When cleaning the bedding materials, you can temporarily move the hamsters into it. It's also convenient for isolating some hamsters that are accidentally injured or sick for a period of time. The cage must be cleaned and disinfected regularly.
The Placement of the Cage Is of Great Importance
There are several points to note when placing the hamster cage at home:
1. Don't put it in a place where it can be directly exposed to sunlight, because hamsters can't endure strong sunlight.
2. Hamsters don't like the moisture on the ground, so it's ideal to place it at a height of more than 30 millimeters above the ground.
3. They need fresh air, so it should be placed in a well-ventilated area, but not in a drafty place, such as by the window or near the air conditioner vent.
4. There shouldn't be anything within the hamsters' reach near the cage, for example, electrical wires, wallpaper and so on, because they might damage or even eat these things.
