Hamsters don't like either overly hot or overly cold environments. They prefer a moderate temperature.
The Most Suitable Temperature Range: The most suitable living temperature for hamsters is usually between 18°C and 24°C, and the optimal temperature is around 22°C. Within this temperature range, hamsters are in the best physical condition and are more active.
Adaptability to High Temperatures: Hamsters are quite sensitive to high-temperature environments. When the temperature exceeds 30°C, they will feel uncomfortable and may even suffer from heatstroke. A hamster with heatstroke may exhibit symptoms such as rapid breathing and an elevated body temperature. If the environmental temperature is too high, hamsters may lose their appetite, become less energetic, and may even die.
Adaptability to Low Temperatures: Although hamsters have some cold tolerance, when the temperature drops below 15°C, owners need to take warming measures. If the temperature continues to drop to 8°C, hamsters may enter a state of pseudohibernation and may even get frostbitten.
Therefore, to ensure the health and well-being of hamsters, breeders should provide a stable and suitable environment as much as possible, allowing hamsters to live in a comfortable temperature. When the temperature is low, extra warming measures need to be provided for hamsters, such as using infrared heating lamps, electric heaters, or providing plenty of cotton and blankets for warmth. When the temperature is high, hamsters need to be kept away from heat sources like heaters and light sources, and cooling measures should be taken, such as opening windows for ventilation and providing plenty of drinking water, to prevent them from getting heatstroke.
